How NoviPath meshes your part

The tetrahedral mesh is the structural model: what it is used for and what that means for loads, results and cost.

Meshing runs from the Meshing workflow step. Open Advanced dropdown from the left-hand side to change parameters, then click Start Meshing. After a successful run, View Mesh displays the mesh in the 3D viewer, and Mesh Statistics reports the counts used for simulation. All meshing lengths are in millimeters.

What the Mesh Is Used For

The tetrahedral mesh is the geometry of the structural model:

  • Loads and restraints are applied to surface faces and nodes of this mesh, not to the original CAD tessellation.
  • NoviPath meshing process performs a series of corrective steps to enable the full finite element tetrahedral volume meshing to succeed. This includes mesh healing and surface remeshing before final volume meshing.
  • When using shape-based boundary conditions after remeshing, the shape must still intersect the new surface. CAD-face boundary conditions follow the remeshed face groups when those groups were preserved.
  • Solve time and peak memory scale primarily with tetrahedral element count.
  • Displacement, stress, and failure index are computed on this mesh. A coarser mesh can miss local peaks; a finer mesh costs more time and RAM.
